About the Healdsburg Food Pantry

The Healdsburg Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer-based, not-for-profit 501(C)(3) service organization, founded in 1980 and supported by generous donations from our community.  The Pantry's mandate is to collect, store, and distribute food to those in need.  Anyone who is a resident of Geyserville or Healdsburg, CA is eligible and welcome to receive food.  Currently, bags are filled with groceries and given out to over 2,800 predominately working people monthly.  The needs have grown by 66% since 2008 due to the downturn in the economy.  A visit on any distribution day will find lines of people including individuals, families with children, households of adults, the homeless and low-income Seniors.

Specially prepared Christmas food baskets provide an extra bit of cheer during the holidays.  In addition to food distribution from the Pantry location, twice a month 30 grocery bags of food are delivered to the Healdsburg Senior Center.  Once a month, a USDA program provides food to be delivered to Fitch Mountain Terraces, a low-income, senior housing project.

Where the food comes from...

We purchase basics from the Redwood Empire Food Bank, while the food industry (notably, Safeway, Starbucks and Big John's), individuals, farmers, and a Gleaning Team from Farm to Pantry donate additional food beyond the basics.

Location...

Food that is donated is organized and shelved at 1505 Healdsburg Ave., Healdsburg, California.   Food can be dropped off Monday thru Friday from 9 to 11 AM or when open for distribution.  Distribution takes place every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

Our Fundraising Event...

The Healdsburg Food Pantry holds one major fundraising event each Fall, a Square Dance, that is considered so much fun it sells out every year.  Support of this fundraiser provides almost all of our yearly budget.  Cash donations enable the Pantry to purchase large quantities of food at a reasonable per pound cost from the Redwood Empire Food Bank.  In 2008-2009 a total of 11,690,000 pounds of food was purchased from REFB for Sonoma County which amounts to 9 million meals, a 31% increase over previous years.

A 100% Volunteer Organization...

It is the large number of volunteers that ultimately enables the Food Pantry to exist.  Throughout the week crews gather bread and food, stock shelves, bag produce, distribute food, help maintain the Pantry and even recycle boxes.  What do they get out of it?  Certainly, knowing they have been, for someone in need, the literal "staff of life"--a tangible, lifeline to the individual and community.

Our Promise

The Healdsburg Food Pantry will treat all individuals and families who come to our door with dignity and respect.  We will provide a lifeline for the working poor, low-income Seniors and the homeless.  We will continue to search out opportunities to provide special food distribution services and meet the need with caring, concern and compassion.

Our Mission

Through the gift of private donations and the work of volunteers we will collect, store, and distribute food to alleviate hunger and ensure an adequate diet for those in need in Healdsburg and Geyserville, California.
